How it works

Processed on your device. Never uploaded to our servers.

Ovalight is built so that your photo never needs to leave your phone or computer. Here is what happens, step by step, and how you can check it yourself.

What happens on your device

  1. Live guide

    The camera view checks distance, centring, head tilt, light and the wall behind you, and tells you what to adjust. Nothing is recorded or sent.

  2. Crop and check

    Your device finds your face, then crops and resizes the photo to the exact size for your document and checks head size, position and background against the published rules.

  3. Your files

    Your device creates the digital file with the right pixels and file size, and a print sheet with cut lines and a 50 mm ruler.

Capture right, then crop

Many authorities reject photos that were edited, retouched or had the background replaced. So we do not fake a studio: we help you take a good photo against a plain, light wall, and then we only crop and resize it. No beauty filters, no generated backgrounds.

The airplane-mode test

  1. Open the Studio and let it load once.
  2. Turn on airplane mode, or switch off Wi-Fi and mobile data.
  3. Take your photo and get your files. Everything keeps working.
  4. Only payment needs internet, and it never includes your photo.

What we never receive

  • Your photos, in any size or format
  • Face measurements, landmarks or quality scores
  • Thumbnails, previews or print sheets

Unless you choose to email your files or save them in your account.

What we do process

To load this website your device connects to our hosting provider, which sees your IP address. If you buy something, our payment provider shares an order record with us so we can unlock your purchase and handle refunds. No cookies for analytics or advertising.

Check it in your browser

Open your browser’s developer tools, go to the Network tab and use the Studio. You will see the page and model files being loaded, and no request that carries your photo.

Only if you choose: email and account

Processed on your device. Stored only if you choose. If you ask us to email your files, they pass through our email provider once and are not kept. If you tick "Save my photos in my account", the finished photo is stored on our servers for up to 90 days, then deleted automatically. We never analyse faces on our servers.
