Photo sizes are set by each authority, and even documents from the same country can differ. Find your size below, then open your document for its head size, background and digital rules.
Size is not the only rule
Two documents with the same photo size can still need a different head size, background or file. The UK passport and the Schengen visa both use 35 × 45 mm, but the UK asks for a head height of 29–34 mm and the Schengen visa for 32–36 mm.
Digital photos
For online applications the size is set in pixels and kilobytes instead. The US visa and the DV lottery, for example, need a 600 × 600 px JPEG of up to 240 KB.
